Best Golf Vacation Thailand- Cascata Golf Club Bangkok

Best of Vacation Thaiiland Cascata 10-9-08 053 (166)

Completed in November 2007, this owner-designed “Tropical Links” 27-hole golf course is a family-affair and the result is a polished, courteous and contented experience.

According to Jui Saprungrueng, the GM and son of the progenitor, Khun Tanawat, the course is a result of the passion of his Dad: “My father was in the construction business for many years and found it tiring. He has invested in three other courses in the area, but he wanted to shape and design his own course. Jui has a PhD in finance, taught in Australia, and then worked with a Cambridge colleague in the UK, who also was a currency exchange expert. Near Lam Luk Ka and Lotus Valley, Cascata is carved out of rice paddies on 1,000 rai of sculpted and groomed grounds. The three nines offer: smooth, wide fairways; receptive greens; pervasive lakes (water surrounds every hole but one); a dozen bending, angling and arcing dog-legs; and ample – often strategic – bunkers. No homes are in sight.

It is tranquil, clean, lean and serene. The ancillary features are, also, commendable. The clubhouse, pro shop and driving range are first-class. The four tees provide solid options, which they must, considering that the A/C course ambles 7,394 yards from the tips (5,684 from the forward tees). The par 5s range to a boisterous 620 yards (the pencil-thin A4 with a narrow green) and half of the par 3s average 210 yards. The pars 4s extend from 342 to 453 yards. The shortest nine, Course B at 3,360 yards, is the easiest. Course C (on a separate parcel) seems to be the toughest. The greens are tricky and severe mounding appears at the edges. The marvelous 4th hole, a par 3 travels 183 yards over a large lake to a peninsula green that slopes precipitously down to the water. “Many golfers hit that green and watch the ball trickle down. Japanese golfers call this hole: ‘The Impossible’! a caddy told me. The 581-yard par 5 requires three water-carries to reach a sit-up green flanked by water and sand. The landing pods are immaculate and the main option must be accuracy.
